Diddy, you may want to read this…..I’m an enthusiast of this man. I may not agree with some of things he does or says, but when he hops on that mic or gets in front a massive crowd, he sure as hell knows how to entertain. About 16 months ago, Sean Combs made the announcement that he would be making his return with a new album titled The Last Train To Paris. Blah.
Off the title alone, I damn sure wasn’t excited. And when he revealed auto-tune would infiltrate the project on all fronts, I became distraught. I hated the concept based off that piece of information alone. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for experimentation in music but the idea of him singing through the auto-tune device didn’t sit well.
Since then, the project has taken a couple of hits, delays and leaks. Creatively, in regards to the album, I think he’s in a rut. So, he shelved the project for the time being and created Dirty Money- a group that consists of him, former Danity Kane member Dawn Richardson and singer/songwriter Kalenna.
From my understanding, the trio is supposed to add more flavor to TLTP, but whatever. I digress. Since the announcement, they’ve released two solid singles which have garnered a nice amount of heat on the radio and in the clubs. “Love Come Down”, in which Diddy is rapping and “Angels” in which Diddy is singing…horribly…on auto-tune.
While those two records are cool, it was Diddy’s boastful vocals on Wacka Flocka’s “O Les Do It” that reignited the excitement I once felt when I used to hear Puff spit on “All About The Benjamins”, “Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down” , G-Dep’s, “Let’s Get It” and his verse on JD’s “Welcome To Atlanta” remix.
Though it came out of left field, Diddy’s verse solidified my answer to the question I pose above- I rather hear Diddy rap. Whether he’s writing his verses or not, that’s a completely different debate, but the way he delivers is of his own doing which will never be matched by any indivdual we know in the business.
And to convince you further, I’d like for you to take a look at Diddy’s performance of the verse during one of his many parties down in Dallas during All-Star Weekend a couple days ago. If that doesn’t inspire you to have fun, dance on a couch and rap your favorite Diddy verse (this is my favorite one as of right now), you need to find your inner Diddy and embrace him lol.
