Money isn’t everything — unless it’s $18 billion dollars. That’s the
amount of cash the soon-to-be ex-wife of billionaire oil executive
Harold Hamm expects to win in a divorce settlement.
CNBC
reports that Sue Ann Arnall was awarded $974.8 million in divorce
settlement by an Oklahoma County judge. Hamm, an executive for oil
driller Continental Resources, hastily wrote out a check for $974.8
million and delivered it by courier to Arnell’s lawyer’s.
But Arnell returned the check because it lacked enough zeros.
According to CNBC,
Arnall refused the check because she is appealing the judge’s decision
on the grounds that $974 million is simply not enough cash for her
champagne and caviar tastes. She expects to rake in $18 billion in an
appeal. Anything less than $18 billion is apparently chump change to
her.
Hamm’s lawyer, Michael Burrage, explained Arnell’s position in an emailed statement to CNBC.
“Ms. Arnall, through her counsel, stated that they were rejecting the
… payment because Ms. Arnall did not want to risk the dismissal of her
appeal by acceptance of the benefits,” Burrage wrote.
