A South African judge has cleared
Olympic and Paralympic track star Oscar Pistorius of murdering his
girlfriend. Judge Thokozile Masipa, who is a black female, simply said
Pistorius was “negligent” when he fired multiple shots through a
bathroom door killing model Reeva Steenkamp last year.
At least 3 neighbors — including a doctor — testified they heard a
woman’s “terrified screams” the morning Pistorius shot and killed
Steenkamp.
But Masipa said she was “not persuaded” that a reasonable person with Pistorius’ abilities… would have fired the shots that killed the law graduate and model.
Masipa will read her full verdict in open court on Friday morning
South Africa time, which is 6 hours ahead of the Eastern time zone.
Pistorius, whose legs were amputated as a child, was the first
Paralympian to run in the Olympics. He was dubbed ‘Bladerunner’ because
of his custom running blades.
