As the President mourns together with the Nation for the loss of innocent Kenyan lives in the Westgate Shopping mall attack, he also mourns his closest relatives. While addressing the nation on Saturday night, President Uhuru Kenyatta sent his deepest condolences to families who had lost their loved ones and revealed that he knew what they were going through because he too had lost a close relative in the attack.According to reports, the president’s nephew, Mbugua and his fiancée Wahito, were shot dead during the attack and from a witness account, Mbugua had made it safely out of the building when he realised that his fiancee was still stuck in the building. He rushed back to get her only to be shot dead together with his fiancee.

Unconfirmed reports also state that President Uhuru’s personal assistant Jomo Gecaga, his son Jomo and sister Christine Wambui Pratt were also at Westgate during the attack but made it out safely. Daily Nation writes,

“President Uhuru Kenyatta’s elder sister, Christine Wambui Pratt, 61, was one of the victims in the Westgate Mall when terrorists raided the complex Saturday.Wearing a white top and khaki skirt Ms Pratt came out running barefoot, distraught, carrying her black shoes and handbag, with a securex guard by her side. She was received by friends and guided into a waiting blue Mercedes, parked on Peponi road.

According to relevant sources, the President has really been hit hard by the attack and it is for that reason that he took long to address Kenyans. We pray that he gets the strength he needs to lead the country as he mourns his family and all the innocent Kenyans who died in the terror attack. We would love to send our sincere condolences to the first family for their loss.
She was uninjured.”
