I've never seen so many people critique a music video like they
have to Jaguar's new video, 'Kipepeo'. One thing is for sure though, all
these is brought about by the flashy toys in the video and the
controversies surrounding their ownership. That aside, hip-hop rapper
K-Nel, an old friend of Jaguar recently reviewed the video and gave his
candid view of the video.
He opines that the video is "just average". Here's why;
The hype of Jaguar’s new video raised my eyebrows. Images of flashy cars including a Bentley, an aeroplane flooded the net. It was just impossible to ignore the features and discussions on social network about his latest toys. I played “Kipepeo” the audio version that is and decided to hold on my review until the video drops. The video dropped, I played it twice, realised as usual Youtube haters were all over commenting nasty stuff. When I checked a couple of minutes earlier to get the link, I saw the comments had been disabled. Smart move. I disable comments too off my flicks. I will breakdown my review in categories:
1; Track; Kipepeo sounds to me like “Kigegeu Season 2″ only that it has a different storyline. I will give the record an “average” pass although am sure it’s that record that will be on heavy rotation. I need to give it few more listens until it catches up with me.
2; Cinematography ; Honestly speaking if I was jaguar or his management, this video would have not hit the fans in that state. The director of this video had the armo to literally create a movie. Cammon man! He had flashy cars, aeroplane, gorgeous women and this is what he delivers? While watching the video I was trying to understand what the storyline is but I got lost. He failed to capture that. What about colouring? A lot could have been done here to give the video that crispy hollywood look. In my opinion he failed here too. Remember when you shooting videos Mr director at open places, you have to always bear in mind what is happening in the background and how you present it to the audience. E.g there is a scene where Jaguar is sitting outside waiting for his shawty, and pay attention to the waiter in the background serving drinks who stops and stares to watch what’s going on. It’s a music video, not K24 reporting news where you have cats standing behind the reporter just to be seen on TV. This is not “Kama Ndrama Kama Vindeo” news bulleting. What else? I would have loved to see more of that aeroplane eg shooting scenes inside of Jaguar and his entourage chilling insted of just showing us the aeroplane…………..then the clouds and that’s it! I can go on and on but the director seriously should have done so much with the goodies he had.
3; Performance; In the future I wish to see more of an “energetic” Jaguar. His expression when doing performance scenes lacked energy, should I say the facial expression was dull? I should have also liked to see more of what he was wearing. Take clean vintage shots of his attire and not only show the shopping bags Mr director. He is the superstar on set and that’s something you should present proper. I understand the goal was to compete with high profile MTV videos. Sorry, this did no magic for me.
