Former kiddie rapper Chris Kelly was 18 when he purchased his first
home for $307,500 at the peak of his fame as one half of the
multiplatinum rap group Kris Kross. The home has depreciated in value
$100K since then.
Kelly was found unresponsive in that home by his mother, Donna Kelly
Pratt, who frantically dialed 911 after Kelly complained of feeling
nauseated and passed out.
Kelly, 34, was pronounced dead around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Atlanta Medical Center’s south campus.
His mother later told police that her son ingested a combination of
cocaine and heroine, known as a “speedball.” Pratt said Kelly had a
history of drug abuse.
The traditional style 3,067 square foot home on Stoneleigh Drive in
southwest Atlanta has 4 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. The 2-story home is
just a stone’s throw from the Greenbrier mall where Kelly and his best
friend, Chris Kelly, both 12, were discovered rapping by an
up-and-coming music producer.
Kelly’s former rap partner mourned his death in a statement obtained by E! Online.
“Chris Kelly was my Best Friend. He was like a brother,” wrote Smith,
34. “I love him and will miss him dearly. Our friendship began as
little boys in first grade. We grew up together. It was a blessing to
achieve the success, travel the world and entertain Kris Kross fans all
around the world with my best friend. It is what we wanted to do and
what brought us happiness. I will always cherish the memories of the
C-Connection. KRIS KROSS FOREVER, the ‘MAC DADDY’ and ‘DADDY MAC.’”
