Beyonce’s “Bow Down” clearly isn’t for everybody.
This
weekend, King Baddie Bey threw jabs at her critics and R&B/Pop
counterparts when she spit the cocky lyrics, “I know when you were
little girls, you dreamt of being in my world, don’t forget it , don’t
forget it, Respect that, bow down b-tches” on her new buzz single. As
expected, the reaction to the song sparked various reactions from fans
who loved it, to others who wondered what happened to the Beyonce who
was promoting female empowerment during her last album.
One
singer, who definitely wasn’t about to hold her tongue when it came to
her thoughts on the record, was Keyshia Cole. She took to her Twitter
today to dish her thoughts about the newly released track while also
asking why was it a problem when she spoke her mind, but it’s okay for
another singer to tell ‘b-tches to bow.’
Can’t stand when people all self righteous when it’s convenient it makes them look good. Lmao! But can still talk sh-t when convenient 2 [f-ck outta here] First “Women need to Stick together” now b-tches better Bow. Smh.

Last month, after Keyshia Cole posted a few negative tweets about Michelle Williams’ SuperBowl half-time performance, she was slammed on Twitter. Weeks later, Michelle responded in an interview, “To all my ladies, we must learn to stick together and support each other,” which Keyshia referenced in her response today.
Keyshia
may have a point, however the delivery of said point is bound to piss a
lot of people off. Especially, after the Michelle Williams debacle.
Me
personally, I love what Beyonce stands for. She’s done a good job
staying positive and creating amazing energy through her music in an
industry that dwells on the negative. She’s a mother, a wife and role
model who has earned respect from the likes of Michelle Obama and Oprah.
To hear her telling ‘B-tches’ to bow down, did catch some of us off
guard, even if she was just playing around and having fun. It provokes a
more competitive and hostile environment amongst her peers, when just
two years ago we were sticking together as girls who run the world. It’s
definitely apparent that Beyonce has established her reign at the top
of the game without her ever having to remind us. She’s beyond that.
A music blogger friend of mine thinks differently. Lowkey was involved in a discussion surrounding the single last night and he said:
Some feel as though she’s alienated her core by getting foul-mouthed and having such a left field beat but I think this is a perfect set up for all the s–t she’s been getting and what not. I cant even be MAD at that. Beyonce is VERY comfortable in her creative skin right now and it’s going to be an EXPERIENCE on this new album. I can only imagine the ratchet sh-t she’s got tucked under her belt.
Basically, after all the crap Beyonce has taken over the years, she deserves at least one chance to clap back.
