P Unit Steal the Show at 9ja Nite

On Saturday, 10th November all roads led to the Ngong Racecourse for Naija nite, one of Kenya’s most awaited events.
On this night, West and East Africa’s stars take to the stage to marvel attendants. This year’s lineup was an all-female star listing. From Uganda, the outstanding Keko and energetic Jackie Chandiru were set to perform and to steal the show was the petite yet entertaining Chidinma of the Kedike Fame. Along these acts were also some local stars such as 9con, Punit and Lyra.....

The event was largely sponsored by Snapp reason behind the theme, ‘Divas night out’. This also saw the event organizers dress their ushers in Snapp colored Rwandese regalia.
The night began with energy filled mixes by Dj Kaytrixx and DJ Vin. The host of the night was the vivacious Kalekye Mumo who threw in stints to get the crowd engaged and pumped for the performances. She didn’t fail with her dance moves and hearty laugh.

The first performance was by the new kid on the block Lyra who did her rendition of Kukere and later did a set with Collo and Jamani.  Though some of her songs were little known the crowd they still seemed to like her.

The first male performer, 9con took to the stage and wowed the ladies with his hits, kolo and my lady. He stole the night though when he took off his shirt to reveal a well-toned body. (You never go wrong with this if you have a to die for body, despite the performance you offer.)

The dancers used by these artists were questionable as their acts seemed not synchronized and the crowd was certainly disconnected. Jackie Chandiru however put in every effort to see she still brought vigor to the crowd and didn’t fail.

The crowd wasn’t the most energetic crowd during performances but not until our very own Punit took to the stage. They were backed up by a live ma3 band who never fails with live performances. They stole the show by providing an electrifying and engaging performance. It was their energetic and unique style that made the crowd fall in love. Even those who might not have understood what they were singing about still enjoyed their performance telling from the plenty of corporate sponsors who cheered along.

Keko and Chidinma took to the stage later, however their performances were not as compelling as what Punit had earlier on presented. Perhaps the short performances were to blame. Chidinmas’ dancers however must be applauded for putting up an amazing show albeit too short.

An array of local celebrities were spotted at the event such as Jalango and Jaguar who seemed to be constantly flagged by fans, Rachel from Homeboyz was spotted too looking dazzling The laid back award winning DJ pinye was seen at the event too. Some corporate sponsors at the event included; Orange Corporate Communications Manager -Angela Mumo, Rwandair country manager Connie Potel, and former Nigerian High commission to Kenya.

Despite a good party some revelers still felt this show would have been better with longer performances, better bar prices and a better supply of bathrooms for the regular crowd. Security and setup was however commended.
