TV NEWS: RIHANNA OPENS UP TO OPRAH ON ‘NEXT CHAPTER’ + QUOTES FROM THE INTERVIEW

Oprah’s interview with Rihanna was must watch T.V. on Sunday night (August 19). Not only was the 24 year-old pop superstar CANDID about her relationship with Chris Brown, she opened up about her vulnerability, the loss of her grandmother and why she needs her fans. She also showed Oprah around her childhood stomping grounds and had a special surprise for her mother.

I would have to say that out of all of the recent Rihanna interviews, this has to be the best. Not only because she was speaking from the heart, but you can tell she has grown up a lot. For those of you who missed the interview, I typed up a few quotes/snippets. Check them out below..

ON HER CURRENT RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIS BROWN:
“We’ve been working on our friendship again and now we are very very close friends. We built a trust again. We love each other and we probably always will, and that’s not anything that we’re going to try to change. That’s not something you can shut off if you ever been in love. He’s in a relationship of his own, I’m single. We have maintained a very close friendship, ever since the restraining order has been dropped. We just worked on it little by little. It has not been easy..”

ON FORGIVING CHRIS:
“I thought I hated Chris and I realized it was love that was tarnished. It looked like hate because it was ugly, it was angry, it was inflamed, it was tainted and I realized that what it was is, I have to forgive him, because I cared about him still. And the minute I let go of that, I started living again.”

ON HER LOVE FOR CHRIS BROWN:
“I think he was the love of my life. He was my first love and I see that he loved me the same way. I truly love him—the main thing for me is he’s at peace. I’m not at peace if he’s not happy or he’s still lonely. I care. It actually matters that he finds that peace.”

ON HOW SHE GOT TO BE COMFORTABLE IN HER OWN SEXUAL SKIN:
“I had to fake it until I make it. That’s what I had to do. I had to pretend that I was comfortable, I really was not. I’m 24 and now I can experiment and figure myself out.”

WHAT SHE LEARNED FROM HER LATE GRANDMOTHER (GRAN GRAN DOLLY):
“She was a legend. She was a well rounded woman. She taught me a lot about forgiveness, she taught me a lot about loving my enemies. she taught me a lot about spirituality, faith, strength as a woman. The one thing she wants me to do is marry someone who loves me more than I love them because a woman will always give even more than they need to [because] we are selfless beings we are maternal and even with a husband, she said it will be that way with them as well. They will only meet you half way if they love you a little more.”

ON HOW HER FANS HELP HER:
“It’s amazing how lonely you can feel and like nobody understands. And the moment you reach out and put your guard down and your vulnerable somebody always reaches out and knows that you are not alone. They go through the same things. I put a lot of importance in that relationship with my fans..”

ON WHAT SHE WANTS HER FANS TO KNOW:
“I want them to feel comfortable knowing that I have flaws as well. I want them to know those flaws because I’m afraid of the pedestal. I’m super duper afraid of the pedestal that comes with fame and with being a celebrity, so I keep myself as close to the ground as possible. I want to be a peer to my fans, I don’t ever want to be above them.”

ON WHETHER OR NOT SHE IS COMFORTABLE BEING A ROLE MODEL:
“No, because of what society has made that title. It has become a title of perfection. That is something that nobody can achieve. I can’t say that I’ll get it right every time because I won’t. I wish. I’m a work in progress.”

ON “WHO SHE IS”:
“I love to have fun. I love to be spontaneous. I’m intrigued by things that are a little adventurous and things that are a little unknown. I’m very black and white when it comes to my business but I do allow a gray area in my personal life. I want people to feel good, the people around me. Whatever that means, whatever I can do for them. Those are some things about me..”

If you didn’t get a chance to watch the interivew, Oprah will be re-airing it next Sunday. There are also a few links around the net, but they probably won’t be up for long because Oprah doesn’t play with her content!! ROFLL!! As for Rihanna, you can check her out at the MTV VMAs next month, where she will be performing..
