Nelly is already on to the next. The St. Louis rapper revealed that he is working on a follow-up to last year’s 5.0 and is eyeing a release for later this year.
During a visit to the “Today” show to promote his fitness DVD series Celebrity Sweat, Nelly broke the news. “I’ll hopefully have a new album coming out at the end of this year. I’m going back in,” he told hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb. “The last album 5.0 was phenomenal—‘Just a Dream,’ 4 million and things.”
He hinted at a potential out-of-the-box pairing like his hip-hop-meets-country record “Over” with Tim McGraw. “Hopefully, I have something real big planned. I don’t want to give it away,” he added.
One collaboration he will talk about is Keri Hilson’s “Lose Control.” The two recently shot a video for the song, which is the next single from Keri’s sophomore album No Boys Allowed.
J. Cole to Drop First Single Next Week
After a lengthy wait, J. Cole is finally ready to blow up in the spotlight. The Roc Nation rapper will officially launch into album mode next week when his first single arrives.
“We finally married a single and we picked it, so that’s next week. There’s no more holdup,” he told Ms. Drama TV at the BET Awards nominations press conference. “As of next week, you’ll see me on full-fledged promo mode.”
Without giving away a title, he did offer a few additional hints. “It’s summertime, it’s incredible. It samples one of my favorite albums from my growing up experience.”
When asked if it was a sample of his Roc Nation boss Jay-Z, he responded, “Nah, you’re in the family though.”
Cole’s debut is expected to include production from No I.D., Brian Kidd, and Danja. He will hit the road with his Roc Nation affiliate Rihanna starting in June.
Who do you think the mystery sampled artist is? Place your bets.
