MIAMI, January 27 – The NBA announced that HEAT players LeBron James and Dwyane Wade were selected as starters for the Eastern Conference in a vote of the fans for the 2011 NBA All-Star Game. The 60th NBA All-Star Game, which will air live nationally on TNT and ESPN Radio in the U.S., and reach fans in more than 200 countries and territories in more than 40 languages, will be played at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, CA on Sunday, February 20, 2011.
James finished as the top vote-getting forward in the Eastern Conference with 2,053,011 votes. The 2011 All-Star appearance will mark the seventh consecutive for the two-time NBA All-Star MVP (2006 & 2008). In his previous six All-Star appearances (all starts), he has averaged 23.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.83 steals and 30.5 minutes while shooting 50.4 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point range.
Wade, the 2010 NBA All-Star MVP, finished as the top vote-getting guard in the Eastern Conference with 2,048,175 votes. His 2011 All-Star appearance will mark his seventh consecutive and the sixth straight year as a starter. In his previous six All-Star appearances, he has averaged 17.3 points, 4.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 3.00 steals and 26.3 minutes. He hit the game-winning field goal in the 2006 All-Star Game and his seven appearances and six starts are both Miami HEAT franchise highs.
James and Wade are joined by Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose and New York Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire. The Western Conference starters are Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant, Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony, Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul and Houston Rockets center Yao Ming. The Eastern and Western Conference reserves will be selected by the league’s 30 head coaches and will be announced on Thursday, February 3 on TNT.
