Markai Durham, a star of MTV's popular show "16 And Pregnant" recently discovered she was expecting a second child...but this time, she plans to terminate the pregnancy. And people ARE NOT happy about it. Get the deets on her decision and the fury it's causing inside...
MTV's reality show "16 And Pregnant" has been accused of glamorizing teen pregnancy as several of it's stars have graced the pages of PEOPLE, US WEEKLY and other glossy mags. Rarely is there a black female featured on the show. So Markai's situation stands out even more. And this time...folks are saying they crossed the line.
Though the show has yet to air (it will premiere tonight on MTV), one of the teen moms, Markai Durham, discovers she is pregnant a second time but decides not the have the baby. And of course this set off a firestorm of controversy.
On the show, Markai, who first appeared on last month's episode, discovers she is expecting again. And her decision to terminate the pregnancy on this episode called "No Easy Decision" has all the pro-lifers up in arms. And after reading her quotes, it could possibly have pro-choicers cringing as well.
MTV has forbidden 19-year-old Markai from giving interviews, still she says on her own social media postings,
"I get sad from time to time thinking about it but then everything happens for a reason. God gave me 3 paths to take abortion, adoption, or raising this baby along with another.
"I chose this path and I think about how stressing things would have been if I haven't made the one I've made."
Markai already has a 2-year-old daughter, Za'karia, and is seeing a therapist for her issues. She admits to using drugs in the past and sleeping with different men every other night. But this last pregnancy was not expected. She says she and her boyfriend used birth control but,
"I just never knew it ran out. They give you a time limit to get the shot again. [It's] like days-days, so I thought I had time. I guess not."
It hasn't been easy for Markai since the show. She is often attacked on her facebook page and throughout social media. When asked how she arrived at her decision, she said:
"It was only an embryo, not a baby not a fetus when I was pregnant," she wrote online. "So that's what I believe now and I know one day God will give me that embryo that turns into a baby back to me once we're more better :)"
The show airs tonight on MTV. Your thoughts?
