Enter Jessie J. The British-bred singer-songwriter first made a name for herself on Youtube where she notched up millions of views, before being snapped up by Universal Music in the US.
An ‘artist’ in every sense of the word, J’s most notable writing credit is the one Miley Cyrus song we’re ‘allowed’ to like, ‘Party In The USA’. Interestingly, the song was meant to be J’s Stateside debut (lyrically addressing her move from the UK to US). However she instead decided to give the song to Cyrus – who went on to have a major hit with it. A potentially great move, if J’s new single is anything to go by.
The hard-hitting ‘Do It Like A Dude’ has been confirmed to be J’s first official release. Take a listen to the track, which premièred today, below…

With its pulsating production (a Rock, Hip-Hop, and Pop fusion), the song goes hard! My initial worries about the busy production stripping her vocals of their trademark rawness, quickly evaporated – with all components of the track (beat, vocal delivery, and whatnot) meshing together well to serve up a hit-in-waiting.
