MUSIC NEWS: KANYE WEST DEBUTS ‘RUNAWAY’ FILM / CHRIS BROWN TALKS ABOUT GROWING UP / RIHANNA TO RELEASE PHOTOBOOK


Rapper Kanye West premiered his a 35-minute short film entitled Runaway last night (October 6) at the London’s British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). In the screen production, Kanye falls for a girl, who happens to be a phoenix, after she crashes down on earth “from another world.” Before the actual premiere, West introduced his production, talked about what inspired the film and answered questions for about 2 hours:

Dressed in a black jacket, large brown belt and black army boots, West welcomed the audience saying London felt like a “second home”. He added the film was “an overall representation of what I dream”, inspired by artists like Picasso and Matisse. Introducing the feature he said: “Purple Rain, The Wall, Michael Jackson’s Thriller - I wanted to do a modern version of that.” [READ MORE]

West directed and wrote the film with art director, Vanessa Beecroft and producer, Jonathan Lia.

No word on when or if the film will be debuted in the US any time soon.

CHRIS BROWN TALKS ABOUT GROWING UP & MOVING ON


R&B/Pop singer Chris Brown stopped by The Angie Martinez Show yesterday (October 6). The artist spoke about the cancelled tour with Usher, dating after his relationship with Rihanna as well as his new discernment of true friends:

“I kinda just got a gauge of who was there and who wasn’t, so now I know who I can deal with. There’s people in my phone I’ll call and they’re my homies. I don’t need no more friends. Oh, you need me to do something for you? Holla at my manager.” [LISTEN TO MORE]

Brown’s fourth studio album, F.A.M.E., is set to drop some time this Fall.

RIHANNA TO RELEASE PHOTOGRAPHY BOOK INSTEAD OF WRITTEN MEMOIR


Rather than writing and releasing a personal book on her life experiences, pop singer Rihanna will be releasing a photography book featuring new photos from previous shoots as well as recent personal, behind the scenes pictures. The self-titled, 144-paged book will be available in paperback and hardcover on October 26, 2010. You can check out some sneek peak photos on Rap-Up.com.
