Pop rebel Ke$ha certainly has cause for celebration this week. ‘Animal’, her debut studio album, has been certified Platinum.

The set, which boasts hits such as ‘Tik Tok’ and ‘Blah Blah Blah’, was last week certified Platinum by the RIAA (The Recording Industry Association of America), for (anticipated) sales of 1 million. Current sales of the LP, which was released in January, stand at 946,700; yet the certification was likely based on the fact that it will certainly sell through the remaining shipment.

Love her or loathe her, on many a level this is an impressive feat for Ke$ha. Critiqued for being just another ‘digital singles’ artist, the certification separates Ms. Sebert from the pack of similar labelled acts who – for all their success – still can’t shift any albums (see: Jason Derulo, Jay Sean, etc).
What’s more, microwavable music or not, the 23 year old writes her material (unlike the Rihanna’s and co), which means she is personally racking in the $$$ from both her single sales (which are sky-high) and her album sales.
She may not serve up much of substance, but credit where it’s due – she’s doing it big and looks set to do it even bigger. A re-release of ‘Animal’, featuring new productions from the likes of Dr Luke and Bangladesh, is set to hit stores later this year.
Kudos to Kesha!
