Last night Big Boi brought Stankonia to New York City during an exclusive listening session for his upcoming album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty held at Electric Lady Studios. After recently inking a solo deal with L.A. Reid's Def Jam, Big Boi's long awaited album is getting prepared to see daylight after numerous push-backs and delays.
Big Boi premiered four songs from the 14 track album (18 songs will be released in the deluxe album) including the T.I. featured "Tambourine," Jamie Foxx's "Hustle Blood," "Turns Me On" with long-time collaborator Sleepy Brown, and his debut single "Shutter Bug."
The funniest track goes to the interlude where Jamie Foxx bargains with a girl named Keisha over the phone as he negotiates $50 worth of gas to screw the mohawk off of her head. The most seductive song goes to the Lil Jon produced track "Tambourine" as the hook demands you to "Shake it like a tambourine." That wasn't the best cut from the album preview.
The room vibrated with bass and funk carried out of the speakers located throughout the room and the industry insiders responded with smiles and head nods. Some suits in the session were even spotted dancing. The song responsible for such enlightenment goes to Big Boi's first single "Shutterbug" produced by Scott Storch. With confidence, Big Boi said "Long live the funk, that's what I've been doing" before the song rattled the speakers.
