Gifs, Visuals, Thoughts, Oh My! – Otis

MAN. Low Key and I can’t get over this new Spike Jonze visual that dropped last night. You already know, it’s for Janye Zest‘s new video for “Otis”. Off of their new project Watch The Throne. Get it here.

If you follow me on twitter you already know how I feel about it, this video was AMAZING! Not only did Jonze kill the cuts and contrasts (fuck I know about film editing?), but the entire concept is genius. When was the last time you saw either of these dudes having so much fun, smiling and laughing, and TOGETHER? Listen, when I heard the joint I was like damn, these are some ignorant ass grown men, don’t get me wrong, I loved it from first play, but I couldn’t get over some of their condescending/degrading lyrics. “Putting supermodels into cabs” or “You ain’t ‘customed to going through Customs, you ain’t been nowhere, huh?” TWO big rollies, private jets, G450, multiple Benz’, the Mercer!? I was like to myself, I aint shit! Being real, I was eating Chipotle in a Camry admiring my new gold Michael Kors watch, smh.

The thing is, these guys aren’t lying. This is really how they live and the lifestyle that they’ve earned. NO, we can’t all relate to them, because this is luxury rap! But, then they drop the video and you SEE it’s just two excited ass grown men (oh, in Banned 1′s and Balmain tees), having a ball, laughing, smiling, fucking play fighting!

My point being, is the way you may have interpreted their intentions and/or characters when you first HEARD the song, like I did, is completely different then the message that they were targeting. They’ve worked hard and have overcome a lot of hardships in their lives (like WE ALL DO – pow, there’s the relation if your looking for one), and now their going to have some fun!

Basically inspiring all of us to work hard, to not dwell on negative bullshit, have a vision, make things happen, get money, make sparks with your fingertips along the pavement, drive destroyed Maybachs dangerously with supermodels in the back (were they even wearing seatbelts!?) etc etc. See what I’m getting at? You shouldn’t take anything from this but MOTIVATION and pure happiness. I felt like I was a kid again watching Burt and Ernie. Yep, it’s 2011 and I just called two hip hop legends Burt and Ernie. Alright, I got to get out of here and watch it for the 52nd time before UMG blocks it for too much swaggery.

Oh, and if you’re in New York there’s a Watch The Throne carnival happening at 201 Mulberry St. I heard there’s gold laced hotdogs and Ace Of Spades slurpees. The Throne-mobile is there too, incase you want to buy it. I know, I’m interested too, I just gotta wait to see how much I get offered for my parent’s houses this afternoon.

Have a good weekend yall, I’ll be here praying that all of your pain be champagne.

XOXO,
