FASHION: 2011 VMAs FASHION ROUNDUP

While the biggest news to come out of last night’s 2011 MTV Video Music Awards was undoubtedly Beyonce©’s pregnancy announcement, there were other things that went down, namely celebrity fashion. Hollywood’s best and brightest came out to walk the VMA red carpet, breaking out some of their most stylish gear (or attempting to, at least).

There was an apparent theme going on for last night’s VMA performers. Beyonce©, Bruno Mars, and Chris Brown all wore tuxedos while they entertained the masses.

Beyonce© showed she’s not letting a little thing like a baby bump keep her from rocking high fashion, as she performed ‘Love on Top’ wearing a Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 purple sequined tux.

Bruno donned a very similar look during his moving Amy Winehouse tribute. His blue silk tux jacket with black lapels, when paired with his slim necktie and old school hairstyle, create quite the retro look.

Chris went a different style route than Bey and Bruno, choosing head-to-toe white for his nearly show stopping performance.

Black mini-dresses were a popular red carpet choice (there’s a reason little black dresses are a closet staple), with Kelly Rowland, Zoe Saldana, and JoJo all opting for dark hued runway creations.

Of the three ladies, Kelly had the boldest look with a Falguni & Shane Fall 2011 creation. The dress featured gold embroidered detailing throughout, a few leather accents, and a feathered peacock skirt. To finish things off, she added even more texture to her outfit, with a pair of Christian Louboutin ‘Lady Peep Spikes’ studded platforms.

Actress Zoe Saldana, fresh off the premiere of her new movie Colombiana, wore Barbara Bui Fall 2011. Her very mini dress, which was actually paired with pants on the runway, features similar military inspired gold accents as Kelly’s dress. On Zoe’s dress though, the detailing is more subtle, yet still creates the same visual impact.

Singer JoJo went all black everything black hair, black dress, black platform heels. Her Marco Marco mini with its odd ballooning at the hips.

Who knew the night would end up belonging to Beyonce©? She first stole the show with her very unexpected news, then proved that yes, pregnant women do glow. Bey was radiant in a one-shoulder orange silk dress from the Lanvin Fall 2011 collection.

Her look was completed with a side swept ponytail, and Lorraine Schwartz jewels, including an oversized turquoise ring, and platinum tassel earrings.

For those ladies who didn’t want to go the classic little black dress route, grey seemed to be their color of choice.

Newlywed Kim Kardashian donned a floor length metallic number by KAUFMANFRANCO that featured a plunging neckline, and figure hugging fit. She accessorized with her signature raven locks, and a few choice pieces of jewelry.

There was no stage crashing for Lil’ Mama at this year’s VMA’s. The America’s Next Best Dance Crew judge wore a sparkly, deep v-neck mini dress, completing her look with Jeffrey Campbell ‘Rockin’ wooden heeled platforms, and a red bob hairstyle.

Kat Deluna joined the ladies who wore grey, in a one-shoulder (Do I spy another red carpet trend?) body-con dress. Sleek middle-parted blonde locks, and black and violet ankle strap heels finish off her outfit.

Fellas, if the VMA red carpet is any indication, look for burgundy to be your wardrobe color for fall. Ne-Yo, Kevin Hart, and Rick Ross all wore some form of the color on the VMA red carpet.

Ne-Yo and Kevin Hart both went with dark blue denim and chocolate sneakers. But kept it slightly more casual with a white v-neck tee, and burgundy leather jacket. Ne-Yo dressed his denim up a bit, with a burgundy button down/v-neck sweater combo.

Rick Ross got in on the trend wearing a burgundy sweater vest paired with a white tee, and grey denim instead of deep blue.

Rappers Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa and Jay-Z wore some expensive gold chains during the awards. Giving us the laid back but styling look.

And last, but I wouldn’t necessarily call her least, we have Nicki Minaj in full Harajuku Barbie regalia. You’re probably ready to go completely in on Onika and her get-up, but that’s probably what she was going for. Like Lady Gaga and her meat dress at last year’s VMA’s, Nicki Minaj set out to make a statement in this colorful creation.

It’s a costume, plain and simple, and as such, can you really judge it on the same level as the rest of the night’s red carpet walkers?

SO WHAT WERE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE LOOKS FROM LAST NIGHT?
